How to get the best out of Instagram

2 Febbraio 2018

If the world of music now seems controlled by YouTube on the one hand and Spotify on the other, here’s a selection of apps to listen to your favourite music for free. And don’t despair even if you can’t find your favourite tracks: you can always discover new passions and upcoming talent.

Not just filters

Clarendon, Hudson, Lo-Fi and so on. These are some of the filters available for the app to provide the best lighting, shading and colours for your photos. You can also use the manual editing option: brightness, contrast, saturation, warmth and many other elements can be adjusted according to the user’s personal tastes. The secret to success on Instagram is to create a personal style, so that your photos can be easily recognised by your followers.

Instagram apps

Instagram provides users with three apps designed to make your photos more creative. Try Layout, Boomerang and Hyperlapse. Layout offers a simple way to create photo collages, providing a standard range of layouts that follow Instagram’s traditional square format; Boomerang creates a video lasting a few seconds by putting 10 photos of a moving subject into a sequence; Hyperlapse lets you create time-lapse videos, producing a video that is sped up thanks to a special algorithm.

Never go without hashtags

The keywords that accompany every photograph shared on Instagram let you reach a wider audience, otherwise the content will only be seen by your followers. The advice here is to use between five and ten relevant hashtags for each picture: it’s best to avoid overly generic keywords, opting for something more specific. For example, have you shared a photograph of your birthday cake? The hashtag #cake is too generic. #birthdaycake, on the other hand, could suit your needs. Another tip is to include hashtags as the first picture comment, rather than in the photo caption space.

Everyone has a Story to tell

These photos and videos, which you can share directly on the app’s homepage, can only be seen for 24 hours. Which Stories get the most views? The ones that show snippets of daily life, especially among celebrities. In this case, you don’t have to worry too much about the perfect picture, immediacy is the important thing here. How many Stories should you share online to be successful? No more than ten a day, according to social marketing experts. This function can also be used to send live videos to your friends and followers, who will receive a real-time notification. You decide whether to activate comments from time to time when you’re live.

Personalise your Stories with Instagram stickers. Once you’ve taken your photo, just select the label icon at the top of the screen to add them to your content. Emojis, funny hats, crowns, moustaches and so on: these are just some of the features that can make your picture more entertaining and fun. You can also create a sticker of your face: open the sticker menu and tap the icon with a camera to create a mini-selfie to stick anywhere on your photos.

Privacy. But not too much

Instagram is a breeding ground for trolls. So pay attention to your privacy, while still keeping social your media profile. The first step is to choose whether to make your account private or public: if it’s private, anyone who wants to follow you will need your approval. However, you can keep trouble-makers away by taking simple precautions: you can choose to hide comments that include “words or phrases often reported as offensive” and add specific keywords. You can also turn off all comments in individual posts. Lastly, a new feature lets you archive individual posts to hide them from other Instagram users, without deleting them from your account.
